Conrad Sparnroft - Bio

After starting both guitar and the upright bass in Junior High, Conrad convinced his friends to take up instruments and form a band. From nothing came something and they soon found themselves gigging around playing mostly original songs. As Conrad tried to improve himself as a musician, others were often side tracked, so he moved on from band to band. Conrad was a member of "3 of Me" - " Gray Zone" (with Jay Cavanaugh)"M-Theory" + "King Mob" - King Mob + M-Theory, were engineered and co produced with Wharton Teirs (Sonic youth, Dinosaur Jr.)

Conrad's short list of influences are, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, the Police and Miles Davis. What he likes most about these artists's is that they always pushed the envelope; something Conrad tries's to emulate. His semi disregard for convention has led him to use many different techniques and instruments: fretless guitar, two handed tapping, the E-Bow, looping, guitar synthesizer and computer based music.

Conrad has studied with an impressive who's who list of top guitar innovators: Vinnie Zummo (Joe Jackson Band), John Berenzy, Steve Khan, Bill Connors, Dave Fuiczynski (Screaming headless torsos), Vernon Reid + Hiram bullock.

Another divergent approach that Conrad has in his bag of tricks is the use of mathematics. While pursuing a degree in mathematics, he wrote pieces based on group theory, symmetry, and Fourier analysis. As a high school math teacher he often uses his guitar, Theremin and Oscilloscope in class to enhance his students understanding of mathematics. It helps to humanize a subject often regarded as cold.

When Conrad isn't doing music or mathematics, he is either spending quality time with his wife and two children or kicking around the house practicing the martial art forms of Tai Chi Chaun, Tae Kwon Do, American Kickboxing and Wing Chun. This has been a practice and discipline for the past 15 years and helps him stay fit and focused.

Currently he is playing with Randolph Hudson (Bong Water) + Michelle Temple (Pere Ubu) in the E-Bow Quartet and of course Jay Cavanaugh and Dano Fielding in Agents of Karma.

Note: Both Conrad and Dano are teachers at a downtown Manhattan high school. They were both at Ground Zero on 9-11. Two of the many untold N.Y. stories that resulted form that tragedy. They were in essence, at the right place at the wrong time and became the Agents of Karma for their students on that fateful day.
